Allright, so there seems to be some differences of opinion as to what exactly is acceptable to top your burgers and dogs with. I'm gonna go ahead and throw my junk on the table and let's see where it winds up....

Hot Dogs:
mustard
onions
chili
cheese
coleslaw
dill relish (not sweet!)
hot sauce (your choice of brand and style)
sauerkraut
jalapenos
seasoned beef (not quite chili, not quite sloppy-joe. Regional as all get out and good as fuck.)
brunswick stew

Burgers:
mustard
onions
pickles (dill, please. keep that sweet shit in the cupboard!!!)
chili
any cheese on the planet.
mayo
lettuce (leaf only. That shredded shit is for an Easter basket.)
tomatoes (in season only)
bacon
prepared horseradish
pimento cheese
hot sauce (your choice)
salsa (your choice)

What do YOU like?

I like to keep it somewhat simple. Most people around here seem to go with the same (in my sircles, anyways). Not all ingredients are used all of the time obviously.

Dogs:

Mustard (yellow death only)
Ketchup
onions (fried only)
BBQ sauce
Hot sauce
chili
diced tomatoes
pickle relish
Cheese (any style)
bacon

Burgers:

Mustard (yellow death only)
ketchup
mayo
relish
lettuce (fresh iceberg)
tomato
onion (preferrably fried)
pickles (dill only)
BBQ sauce
Steak sauce (HP or A1)
avocado
bacon
cheese (any style. faves:cheddar, swiss, mozza, havarti)
a fried egg
a slice of ham (or Canadian Bacon as you Americans would call it)

That's all I can think of right now.

Burgers

Raw onions, Tamatoes(seasonal) and a little lettuce leaf. Salt and pepper.

Hot Dog

Ketchup, mustard, raw/sauteed onions and chilli. What is a nice combination is Chili and Mustard w/onions. that is how they served it at Oki Dog and it was Damn fine. I dont think chese belongs on a hotdog.

A big ol' portabello mushroom on the burger- I'm also with the Canadian Bacon/Ham on the burger - find that pretty good...I'll put everything on the hot dog. Oh man - guacamole / avocado on everything...probably my favorite food.

Typically throw garlic/mushrooms/onions/Peppers/carrots, etc. in the foil w/butter and cook with the burgers.

Forgot about the fried egg on the burger. NICE!

Also, the sliced ham on the burger originated in New Orleans. It's calledf a "Basin Street." They also have the kickass loose beef "hamburger" po-boys down there that'll soak up damn near any amount of booze.

Fried egg...fuck yes!!!

I can't believe none of you have mentioned horse radish as a burger topping. WTF!
