Dunno......but about 15 years ago a group of kids commented on my ‘frontside 5 o’s.....’
Ha...I had to ask them what they meant....apparently it’s a grind.

The term ‘frontside Indy’ makes me feel ill.

Do you do handplants or inverts?

An invert is a handplant but not every handplant is an invert.

Inverts are one type of handplant (mute-grabbed, backside turn), whereas other handplants (eggplant, andrecht, layback air) are not called 'invert'. oh, and then there's fs inverts, too.

BMXicans started calling them manuals. We didn't beat it down hard enough.

Different tricks. A manual requires you ollie onto something into a wheelie or nose wheelie variation. Hence the term 'manual pad' or 'manny pad' for an obstacle you find in the street to ollie onto and wheelie across and off. This often includes tricks into and out of it, shuvits, flips, 180s etc.

A wheelie is just that, lifting your nose or tail into a two wheel cruise on flat.

BMXers took the term manuals from us.

Kids mistakenly call any wheelie variation a manual.

In my book a wheelie is ten toes on the nose. Regular (or goofy) stance back wheels off is a manual.

Give me a proper bent knee nose wheelie and Ima gonna hoot you all day!

I finally get it. This all came up when I was telling some guys at the park about a dood that did a nose wheelie in a contest around '87. This guy at the end of his run did a two-footed nose wheelie and rode it until he stopped...but he held the wheelie bent knees and all for like however long was the rest of his run. The crowd was going nuts. Me too. While driving home from the park my buddy said he wondered if those guys ever heard of a wheelie before.
