I'm thinking about replicating one of my old kneel boards from the 70s in a modern material, and I'm wondering if I should consider building a laminate deck as opposed to the solid wood that I originally had.
The original was a 7' long extended cutaway that had a 10" wide by 15" long rider surface area that I either Hut Tucked or kneeled on when bombing the hills in NY. Deck was originally solid ash, and for its size, wasn't insanely heavy, but very rigid.
Considering the new materials available, but I'd like to keep the majority of the board constructed of wood, as a laminate. Considering the length, I think the core may have to be something a lot more rigid, maybe honeycomb aluminium or carbon fiber... Anyone have experience with laminates over 6', either in construction or racing? |
